About
Curbcutters Unlimited started with a complaint.
Disability merch mostly wasn't made for us. It was made about us.
Too many inspirational quotes. Too many parking jokes. Too much stuff that felt like something somebody else would buy because they thought it was cute.
We wanted something else. Better designs. Better clothes. A little more honesty. So we started Curbcutters Unlimited.
Good clothes were the start
What interested us even more was the feeling of recognizing yourself in something. Not as a patient. Not as somebody's lesson about gratitude. Not as a punchline. Just as a person with opinions, taste, relationships, bad days, good stories, and somewhere to be.
Why the name
We like curb cuts. They are useful, ordinary pieces of infrastructure that change who gets to move through a place independently. A curb cut is a small piece of concrete that says something bigger: you were considered when this place was built.
The name Curbcutters Unlimited grew from mobility disability: wheelchair users, crutch users, cane users, WCMX riders, and everyone else who has learned exactly how much a few inches of concrete can change a route. The brand does not stop at mobility disability, but we are not going to erase where the name came from either.
We are not here to explain your life for you
Curbcutters Unlimited will never speak for every person with a disability. Nobody can. We can make things from our experience, make room for other people to tell their own stories, and stay willing to listen when somebody sees it differently.
Belonging > inspiration
People with disabilities do not exist to make everybody else feel grateful. Representation should give us somewhere to see ourselves, not another role to perform.
Access > applause
Do not clap because somebody got inside the building. Build the building so everybody can get inside.
Community > charity
People with disabilities do not need to become somebody's good deed. We need access, opportunity, resources, power, and one another.
Where this goes next
Curbcutters Unlimited is still a clothing brand. We just happen to care about the world the clothes are worn in. Access, work, money, healthcare, relationships, independence. When something affects how people with disabilities get to live, we pay attention.
